Lemon Fabric Tablet Case
What You'll Need:
Fabric
Lining fabric (for the inner layer)
Fusible interfacing (to add structure)
Grommet snaps (size appropriate for your chosen fabric)
Sewing machine (optional but recommended)
Scissors
Needle and thread
Clothing Iron
Pins
Tablet (for sizing)
Instructions:
1. Measure and Cut Your Fabrics: Begin by measuring your tablet to determine the dimensions of your case. Add extra space for seam allowances and ease of fit. Using these measurements, cut two rectangles from your outer fabric and two rectangles from your lining fabric. You'll also need two rectangles of fusible interfacing cut to the same size as your fabric pieces.
2. Fuse Interfacing: Following the manufacturer's instructions, use your iron to fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of one outer fabric rectangle and one lining fabric rectangle. This will add structure and durability to your tablet case.
3. Sew the Outer Shell: Place the outer fabric rectangles right sides together and pin around the edges. Sew along the sides and bottom edge using a ½ inch seam allowance, leaving the top edge open. Trim the seam allowances and clip the corners to reduce bulk.
4. Sew the Lining: Repeat the same process with the lining fabric rectangles, leaving a 3-inch opening along the bottom edge for turning later. This opening will allow you to pull the case right side out after assembly.
5. Attach Grommet Snaps: Decide on the placement of your grommet snaps along the top edge of the outer fabric shell. Mark the positions with a fabric marker or chalk. Follow the instructions provided with your grommet snap kit to attach the snaps securely.
7. Assemble the Case: With the outer shell still wrong side out and the lining fabric right side out, place the lining inside the outer shell so that the right sides are together. Align the top edges and pin in place. Sew around the top edge of the case, securing the outer shell and lining together. Leave a small opening along one side for turning. Carefully pull the case right side out through the opening in the lining. Use a pencil or chopstick to gently push out the corners and edges. Hand stitch the opening closed using a ladder stitch or slip stitch.
10. Add Embellishments: For our case, we decided to add embellishments on top of the grommet snaps. We also added a ribbon for an extra special touch.
