Instructions
1. Take your buttons out of the cello and keep the tag.
2. Use your pencil to trace around your pendant on the tag and again on your felt.
3. Cut out the circle from the tag. You may need to trim it again so it fits loosely into the pendant blank.
4. Lay out your buttons and sparkly goodies the way you want them to look on your pendant. Keep the design away from your pencil line. Use your paper circle as a loose guide to see where you need to stop. At this point I like to take a photo with my phone to look at in case I forget exactly what I did!
5. I used an embroidery hoop to sew my embellishments onto the felt, but you don’t have to. Just check occasionally that the fabric is still flat-ish.
6. When you are done creating your pendant design, trim it out of the felt around the pencil line.
7. Take your paper circle and stitch the edges of your felt down around it. I also like to put a few stitches into the fabric and paper together for added stability. You may need to trim some of the felt as you do this. Just make sure it wraps around the edges of your paper.
8. Fit your design into the pendant blank.
At this point you may have one of 2 problems. Not to worry they both have solutions!
- If your design is slightly too large to fit into the pendant.
You simply need to squish it a little to fit. Both the felt and the paper are very forgiving materials! Just gently squeeze inwards around the circle and it will eventually compress enough to fit. Make sure you like your placement, then glue into place.
2. Your design is a bit too far from the edges of your pendant.
. Make sure you like your placement, then glue into place. Using your needle gently pick out the felt fibers to fill the gap. Again felt is a very forgiving material and will stretch!
9. Add a chain to your pendant, and then enjoy your new necklace.
